Exploring California and Other Subnational Climate Assessments: Workshop and Webcast

Who: National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine

When: Aug. 14-15, 2018

Where: Online or in person (Washington, D.C.)

What: Climate change assessment, mitigation, and adaption activities are increasingly driven by states, counties, cities, and local stakeholders. For example, California’s Fourth Climate Change Assessment (Fourth Assessment) seeks to inform state and local decision makers of the risks associated with the changing climate through nearly 50 complementary but independent research projects spanning diverse topics, ranging from wildfires and habitat loss to electricity and natural gas system resilience. The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine invites you to join a two-day workshop in Washington, DC on August 14-15, 2018. The workshop will explore the process, findings, and implementation strategies identified in California’s Fourth Assessment, and will also consider climate assessment activities from other states, regions, and cities. Participants will discuss key elements for successful climate assessment activities, challenges facing policy makers and local actors interpreting and implementing identified interventions, and engagement strategies for key stakeholders such as power and water utilities. This event is made possible by support from the California Energy Commission and the Electric Power Research Institute.

If you are unable to attend in person, we invite you to register as a webcast participant. We'll send you instructions for how to access the webcast as the event approaches.

The event will run from 8:30am-5pm EDT on August 14th and from 8:30am-4pm EDT on August 15th. Please note that the working lunch and breakout session from 12:30-2pm on August 15th will not be webcast.
